Montezuma

Winding down the muddy back-road into Montezuma carries you into a world of buskers, tour operators, dreamers, drug-dealers, eco-protectors and gringo tourists that makes for spectacular people-watching over drawn-out afternoon coffees. Glancing around at the lost souls of this town, covered in elaborate tattoos, piercings, dreads down to the backs of their knees, six months pregant with no pre-natal care, smoking on the side of the road, juggling bowling pins… well. Well. We ate lunch at a complementary holistic yoga-lovers resort, dining on vegan organic nachos watching the waves roll in under the palm trees. I did yoga postures upstairs in their breezy, oceanview, wooden studio. A land of disparity… in some ways it’s beautiful and in others confusing. But I imagine that is the point.
