Like many people I’m very concerned about Myanmar, for a number of reasons. Most recently I am concerned about the dichotomy presented in this morning’s Toronto Star: “Victims in crisis as junta holds up relief” vs. the World Vision half page ad, “Suffering continues in devastated Myanmar… our local staff – already in place – are working around the clock, distributing emergency food, water, shelter, blankets and more to the hardest-hit areas”.

(Apparently US Cargo and that of the Red Cross have entered without problem, but the UN cannot.)

1. Will people be much less inclined to donate towards relief efforts in Myanmar?
2. In general, what should the role of national governments be in relief efforts?
3. What will the long-term effect be in Myanmar should relief agencies be forced to “dump” aid and leave?
